A Crack in the Earth. An Opening for an new Era

Updated: Oct 1

Today we celebrated the public launch of Inside - a vision years in the making. Just a few hours later, Bali’s earth shifted under my feet with a 6.0-magnitude earthquake. It was my first earthquake. The tremor was brief but unforgettable - a visceral jolt reminding me that even the ground we trust can move.

Standing barefoot as the floor rippled beneath me, I felt a wave of awe and humility. The timing felt uncanny: the moment we unveiled a platform dedicated to inner intelligence and resilience, the earth itself shook as if to underscore the work ahead.

A Message From the Earth

In many cultures, earthquakes symbolize threshold moments - the breaking open of old layers so something new can emerge. For me, it was a live-action metaphor: leadership today is forged not on solid, predictable terrain, but in constant movement and disruption.

Inside was born for this exact reality: to help leaders cultivate the only ground that does not shake - the one inside themselves.

The Nervous System as Leadership Infrastructure

The quake reinforced a central insight we hold dear at Inside: our nervous systems are the real infrastructure of leadership.

When uncertainty strikes - whether in markets, politics, climate, or tectonic plates - the capacity to stay present, adaptive, and compassionate depends less on external plans and more on our inner regulation. We often talk about strategy, capital, and innovation, but the leaders who guide teams through volatility know that inner steadiness is what holds everything together.

Cracks as Invitations

An earthquake leaves visible cracks in walls and invisible cracks in our assumptions of permanence. In leadership, these cracks can become entry points for renewal.

They ask:

  • What patterns or structures are ready to fall away?

  • Where do we need deeper roots and stronger connections?

  • What stories of control can we release to become more responsive, less brittle?

Grounding in Care and Connection

As we move forward, we hold in our hearts everyone who felt the tremor across Bali. Physical safety, community care, and kindness to ourselves always come first.

The quake was also a reminder that resilience is relational: it’s found in how we support one another, not just how we steel ourselves individually.

The launch of Inside marks the beginning of a collective journey: to help leaders discover the inner ground that steadies them in a quaking world.

Today, the earth’s movement felt almost like a blessing - a call to remember that real change asks us to shift at the roots, not just at the surface.

May we build organizations - and lives - capable of bending without breaking, guided by intelligence that is as deep and alive as the ground beneath our feet.

Inside: Guiding leaders to lead from within - where no earthquake can reach.
